Changsha Selected as a Tourism Hub City of China

The State Council approved a plan to build China into a nation strong in tourism during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), said the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television on July 16, 2026. Changsha has been shortlisted as a tourism hub city in the plan. This mention in the national top-level plan is not only a recognition but also a significant opportunity for the era.

The list confirms Changsha's confidence built through years of dedication to culture and tourism. Underpinned by calling cards such as Chu-Han cultural heritage‌, Red or revolutionary land, and creative performing arts; blessed with the natural endowment of a city of mountains, waters, and isles; and, brimming with vibrant local life, Changsha has become a desired tourist destination for countless people. In 2025, the city received over 230 million visits, with booming business formats of ‌integrated culture and tourism. Changsha has long possessed the strength to serve as a tourism distribution hub for the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and even the entire nation.

Standing at the new starting point of the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, Changsha will closely follow national deployment to promote the integration of culture and tourism in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan area; revitalize key projects such as the Changsha Kingdom in the Han Dynasty and Tongguan Kiln; strengthen smart tourism, nighttime consumption, and diverse inbound tourism scenarios; and, improve urban public services shared by both residents and tourists.
