The Hunan Energy Efficiency Promotion Week, themed "A New Start for Energy Saving, Toward a Low-Carbon Future," was launched in Yiyang on June 15. At the launch ceremony, Lv Wei, director of the Leading Group Office for Regional Coordinated Development of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, noted that, driven by the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, the province has achieved fruitful results in energy conservation and carbon reduction.

Energy conservation and carbon reduction indicators lead the nation. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-2025), the province's energy consumption per unit of GDP decreased, exceeding the national target, fueling an average annual economic growth of 5.2% with an average annual energy consumption growth of 1.8%. In the State Council's assessment of provincial governments on energy conservation target responsibility, Hunan has consistently been rated as "excellent."

Energy transition has achieved remarkable success. The "Three Zones and Three Halls" Demonstration Project for new power systems and the Ningxia-Hunan ±800 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) direct current transmission project have been put into operation. Coal-fired power plants have been upgraded to improve energy efficiency, operational flexibility, and heating capacity. The total installed capacity of new energy power generation exceeds 42 million kilowatts, making it the province's largest power source. The share of non-fossil energy consumption in the province exceeds the national average.

Key sectors are accelerating transformation. The decrease in energy consumption per unit of added value for industrial enterprises above designated size has exceeded the national assessment target. The proportion of green travel, new energy vehicle penetration rate, and charging pile coverage rate continue to rise. New urban buildings fully implement green building standards, with a cumulative completed green building area exceeding 500 million square meters. The per capita comprehensive energy consumption and energy consumption per unit building area of public institutions have decreased and met the set targets.

Since the beginning of 2024, Hunan has actively sought national funding to support equipment upgrades and energy-saving renovation projects, and has secured funding from ultra-long special treasury bonds to support trade-in programs for home appliances and automobiles. Products with a Grade 1 energy efficiency rating now account for over 80% of newly sold home appliances, and sales of new energy vehicles now account for more than half of all vehicle sales.
