Learning about the practices and achievements in rural revitalization, grassroots governance, and industrial upgrading in Wangcheng District, she got a deeper understanding of grassroots development in China's rural areas.

On May 30 and 31, a youth delegation of Germany's Left Party visited Changsha, Hunan Province, observing effective practices and experiences in promoting rural revitalization through grassroots governance, industrial integration, talent attraction, and characteristic smart agriculture, to seek examples of rural revitalization amid the wave of technological change and industrial upgrading.

Located within the ten-thousand-mu (about 667 hectares) embankment area of the Tuanshan Lake in Wangcheng District, Tuanshanhu Village is where Comrade Lei Feng started his grassroots work, thereby being hailed as the "birthplace of the Lei Feng spirit." Tuanshanhu Village has embedded the Lei Feng spirit in every aspect of economic development, rural civilization, and grassroots governance, transforming into a national-level civilized village featuring ecological beauty, civility and harmony, and thriving businesses.

"We are following in his footsteps and carrying forward his spirit of serving the people and taking root at the grassroots level," said Cheng Fuying, Party secretary of Tuanshanhu Village. He told the German youths that Lei Feng's voluntary participation in public service has been recognized by more and more countries. Tuanshanhu Village promotes mutual help between neighbors and strengthens villagers' cohesion through the volunteerism, winning people's support with concrete services and quietly enhancing rural civilization.

The key to rural revitalization lies in industrial revitalization. At the Yun You Tea Industry-Education-Research Base in Jinggang Town, Wangcheng District, the German guests were attracted by the tripartite collaboration model among Hunan Agricultural University, the Wangcheng District People's Government, and the Yun You Tea Co., Ltd. They also experienced tea picking and tea making skills, appreciating the charm of tea culture.

Yang Yinghui, manager of the Changsha Yun You Tea Co., Ltd., said the company has partnered with hundreds of tea farmers to establish Wangcheng's first tea technology cooperative under the development model of "cooperative + base + farmer households." With technical support from the team of Liu Zhonghua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, local tea production has achieved a "double leap" in both yield and quality, driving an average increase of over 10,000 yuan in annual income of tea farmer households.

Watching the skilled workers stir-fry fresh, tender tea leaves into fragrant dried tea, Timo Napparell, a physics major at the University of Leipzig, continuously took photos with his phone. He said the craftsmanship of Chinese tea-making is full of wisdom, and the tea-related business constitutes a vast industry that can boost farmers' incomes.

By deepening cooperation with academician and expert teams as well as leading technology enterprises, Wangcheng District has applied many new technologies and new outcomes in the fields, boosting quality and efficiency improvement in agriculture. In Qiaokou Town, low-lying fields and structurally adjusted areas have been transferred into "lotus + crayfish" farming bases according to local conditions, promoting the lotus crayfish industry through unified seed supply and technical guidance, and continuously empowering the high-quality development of modern agriculture in the town through biological breeding industrialization and smart modern agricultural machinery.

To stimulate the developmental momentum of characteristic rural industries, talent support is necessary for technical breakthroughs and digital-intelligent empowerment. At the "Xinhe Youth Talent Lounge" amid the rice fields in Qiaokou Town, Yang Hailiang, an agricultural manager (village CEO), shared with the German youths his stories. He developed idle rural houses into the Huxiangli Health and Wellness Homestay Cluster which is attractive to urban dwellers to pursue an idyllic life and dreams, thereby helping the village activate collective assets and boost rural industries.

The "Xinhe Youth Talent Lounge" serves as a platform for talent communication in Qiaokou Town and a tourist consultation service center of Lantangsi Village. It regularly organizes free themed trainings and salons, providing a warm-hearted "home of talent" for those who innovate and start businesses in Qiaokou Town. It also launches live-streaming trainings and builds e-commerce platforms to promote villagers' goods, boosting collective incomes of the village, and offering a rest and leisure space for tourists.
