The Changsha Customs Authority announced on April 23 that, in the first quarter of this year (Q1), Hunan's exports of vehicles reached 59,879, a 43.7% increase from the same period last year. The total export value grew 31.1% to 7.98 billion CNY.
In the first three months, Hunan's exports of electric vehicles surged 106.7% to 26,403, accounting for 44.1% of the provincial total vehicle exports during the same period. The export value rose 98.2% to 2.52 billion CNY, accounting for 31.6% of the provincial total. Among these, plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles and pure electric passenger vehicles were particularly popular overseas, with export volume climbing 72.1% and 245.1%, and export value increasing 46.8% and 342.2%, respectively.
Malaysia, Belarus, and Brazil were the top three export markets, while exports to Singapore, Egypt, and Cambodia more than doubled. In the first quarter, Hunan exported 14,190 vehicles to Malaysia, up 130.3%. Its exports to Belarus and Brazil rose 36.2% and 461.3%, respectively. During the same period, exports to Singapore, Egypt, and Cambodia rocketed up 48.7 times, 27.9 times, and 15.6 times, respectively.
Singapore has emerged as a key growth driver for Hunan's automobile exports, not only doubling the scale of exports but also driving industrial restructuring and enhancing brand value. According to an analysis by the Changsha Customs Authority, this serves as a model for expanding into the EU, North America, and the Middle East, accelerating high-quality "going global" of the automobile industry.
Guided by government policies, Hunan's automakers are actively exploring diverse paths for expanding into overseas markets. Hunan exported 51,696 passenger vehicles in Q1, a 45.6% increase and accounting for over 80% of total exports. Commercial vehicle exports accounted for as much as 51.8% of the total export value, with high-value-added, high-tech commercial vehicle products becoming the mainstay of foreign exchange earnings.
In the first quarter, Xiangtan recorded the largest export volume, accounting for 47.8%. Changsha boasted the highest export value, accounting for 70.5%. Huaihua saw rapid export growth, with export volume increasing 292.4-fold and export value rising 143.9-fold.
