The Changsha-Chongqing section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-speed Railway has handled a cumulative total of over 13.12 million passenger trips since June 27, 2025. More than 4.7 million passenger trips have been made since the beginning of 2026, the China Railway Guangzhou Group announced recently. The full opening of the Changsha-Chongqing section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-speed Railway has brought the two cities of Changsha and Chongqing—separated by thousands of miles—closer together, and has increasingly interconnected development opportunities along the route.

Previously, the train journey from Changsha to Chongqing took a long detour—first travelling via the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway to Huaihua, then transferring at Guiyang to the Chongqing-Guiyang High-speed Railway to reach Chongqing. The trip was time-consuming and inconvenient. The full opening of the Chongqing East to Changsha section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-speed Railway has ended this situation.

Starting from the Chongqing East Station, the line passes through Ba'nan, Nanchuan, Wulong, Pengshui, Qianjiang, Xianfeng, Laifeng, Longshan, and other areas before connecting to the Changsha West Station. The whole line spans 735 kilometers with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It connects to the Changsha Station via the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Railway, reducing the rail travel time between downtown Changsha and Chongqing to three hours and 53 minutes. The fastest travel time between Zhangjiajie and Chongqing is two hours and two minutes, while the journey from Chongqing East to Qianjiang takes as little as 61 minutes.
