Yueyang Exports Live Fish to Hong Kong for First Time

On April 13, four tonnes of live bighead carp from East Dongting Lake in Yueyang were shipped to Hong Kong after clearing inspection and quarantine by the Yueyang Customs Authority. This marks Yueyang's first export of live fish from Dongting Lake.

A spokesperson of the export company stated that this batch of live fish was raised using the local distinctive breeding method of "human-released, nature-raised." Under this approach, after the fry are released into the water, no feed is provided artificially. Instead, the fish feed primarily on naturally occurring microorganisms and aquatic plants in the water. This results in slower growth and superior fish quality, making them an excellent choice for dishes such as fish head with chopped chilies and fish head hot pot. Following the successful delivery of this first batch to Hong Kong, the company plans to continue expanding its export volume.

In response to the "fresh, live, and time-sensitive" nature of live fish shipments, the Yueyang Customs Authority works closely with companies to align with their export schedules to swiftly issue animal health certificates. The authority has also opened a "green channel" for fresh and live agricultural products, and implemented measures such as "priority inspection" and "release upon inspection." In the future, the authority will introduce additional measures, including "cloud issuance" of certificates, to further reduce the time for customs clearance.

The Yueyang Customs Authority will implement a three-year special campaign to support the export of agricultural and food products, in accordance with the 25 measures for facilitating cross-border trade issued by the Changsha Customs Authority, with the aim of promoting the export of more Yueyang specialty products.
