The "museum-park integration" project between the Hunan Museum and the Hunan Martyrs Park has been fully completed. The new entrance access officially opened at noon on April 14, 2026. The area in front of the museum has been renovated, and service facilities have been comprehensively upgraded. A new visitor route has been established, which seamlessly connects the natural environment with cultural heritage.
As part of the "museum-park integration" initiative, visitor flow routes have been adjusted so that visitors will no longer congregate at the main entrance on Dongfeng Road. A new route that transforms the experience from "queuing in the wind" to "strolling through the park."

The general visitor flow is as follows: Integration Square→ Weather-protected Landscape Corridor (queuing area) → Pre-screening and Direction → Visitor Service Center → Ticket Gates (including lanes for individual visitors, groups, study tours, and green passage) → Museum West Square→ Security Checkpoint → Exhibition Building.
The starting point of this route, "Integration Square," is an open public space established after the integration of the Hunan Museum and the Hunan Martyrs Park. The "micro-hilly forest" landscape, designed to blend with the natural terrain, allows visitors to stroll upward along granite steps and a covered walkway. The museum's main building appears and disappears amidst the dappled tree shadows, creating a serene atmosphere of a "museum hidden in the mountains." In the spacious comprehensive service area, visitors can take a break or browse for cultural and creative products.

The newly renovated visitor service center along the tour route serves as a key hub for entering the museum. After passing through the covered walkway, visitors will first arrive at this spacious area of approximately 1,100 square meters. The center effectively provides convenient services upfront and strives to create a comfortable environment. The area features reinforced zigzag barriers, prominent directional signs, and informational displays to ensure orderly queuing. Upon exiting the museum, visitors can proceed from the exhibition building exit → south ramp → comprehensive service area to return to the Integration Square, conveniently connecting to the natural scenery of the Hunan Martyrs Park and the surrounding transportation hubs.
"The museum-park integration project has effectively addressed shortcomings in supporting facilities for the museum's daily operation. During peak visiting hours, the museum can now accommodate 1,500 to 1,800 visitors in line and allow them all to enter the museum square within 10 to 13 minutes," said Duan Xiaoming, Party secretary and curator of the Hunan Museum. The curator noted that the integration will effectively resolve the difficulties faced by the museum, including congestion on Dongfeng Road, insufficient parking, and inadequate facilities such as luggage storage. It can also solve the problems caused by surrounding buildings, utility lines, and shantytowns that impact operations and the landscape, thereby enhancing the overall reception capacity of the area.
On the other hand, the project is exploring the establishment of China's first "museum-park" combined ecological model, which combines the "museum" with the "park" through the interplay of internal and external landscapes. The integration blends red or revolutionary heritage with natural beauty and history with modernity, thereby building itself a new cultural landmark in Hunan. This model will also effectively extend visitor stay times, enrich the depth of the visiting experience, and broaden the targeted audience scope. This will provide sustained support—with richer content, greater engagement, and higher value—to help Changsha's cultural and tourism sector transition from a fleeting "viral sensation" to a lasting "long-term success."
