Shangsi Festival Celebration to Be Held at Qianyang Ancient Town

When a thousand-year-old ancient town meets the traditional Shangsi Festival, and when the elegance of traditional Chinese culture blends with the splendor of spring, the Shangsi Festival (also known as the Double Third Festival) will be celebrated in Qianyang Ancient Town, Hongjiang, as scheduled on April 18 and 19.Featuring a Hanfu parade, a traditional cultural gala, intangible cultural heritage crafts, and folk cuisine and music, the immersive traditional folk festival awaits visitors from near and far. The visitors are invited to join this springtime celebration and experience the ancient charm of the Shangsi Festival.

As the highlight of the event, the Coming-of-Age Ceremony will offer an immersive experience that reproduces the beauty of traditional rituals, inviting visitors to explore classical Chinese culture and experience firsthand the unique heritage of the Shangsi Festival as "Daughters' Day." It is a traditional ritual experience not to be missed.It is advised to stroll through the ancient town in Hanfu and discover the exclusive romance of the festival. During the event, two spectacular parades featuring Hanfu and ethnic minority attire will make a stunning appearance as they travel through ancient streets and alleys. Along the way, there will be dance performances, interactions, as well as the distribution of mugwort sachets. Romantic window-side dances pair with a beautiful shower of flower petals will create a scene where every step leads to a picturesque view, allowing visitors to fully immerse in the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.

Delightful surprises await visitors at every turn when they explore Qianyang Ancient Town. A variety of Tang and Song dynasties-style flash mop performances will be held randomly, and characters impersonated by performers like "Wang Changling," "Twelve Flower Goddesses," and "Little Flower Children" will appear in alleys. Every snapshot will be perfect traditional Chinese-style content that can be shared on social media platforms, filling the visit to the ancient town with unique joy.If you'd like to experience traditional crafts firsthand, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop at Furong Tower is the perfect place to visit. Here, you can make your own floral hairpins, fan rubbing, and mugwort sachets. Through every stitch and every rubbing, you'll feel the unique charm of these intangible cultural heritage traditions, allowing you to take home the beauty of spring and the essence of traditions.

There are also fun interactive activities. A China-chic Sports Meeting will kick off at the east gate of the ancient town, featuring classic traditional games like arrow throwing. A stamp collection activity will be organized for participants to redeem gifts. Whether you're exploring with your family, hanging out with friends, or enjoying the sports events on your own, you're sure to have a unique and memorable time.You can join in a culinary feast after your visit. The long banquet on the Nanzheng Street will serve local specialties like mugwort rice and spring rolls. On the Beizheng Street, eggs boiled with shepherd's purse (a wild herb) will be ready and those who share a post on social media platforms on-site can enjoy a free serving. The food court on Dongzheng Street is open all day, offering a wide array of local snacks and delicacies from across the country.

This April, Qiyang Ancient Town invites you to don Hanfu, enjoy local customs, savor delicious cuisine, and stroll through ancient streets, to celebrate the Shangsi Festival together.
