In recent days, more than 6,800 mu (about 453 hectares) of spring tea in Shuangquanxin Village, Kaiyun Town, Hengshan County has entered the harvest season. Tea farmers are busy picking tea leaves, while tea processing workshops are operating at full capacity, ensuring high-efficient tea production.

Boasting excellent quality, Hengshan Huang Tea shows a momentum with robust sales in the domestic market and expansion in overseas markets.

Walking into the tea garden, tea plants are seen sprouting fresh green buds. Tea farmers pluck the tender leaves into baskets skillfully.

"Picking tea requires great skills," a tea farmer said, adding that we should gently lift the buds with our fingers to ensure the high quality of the tea leaves.

According to the tea production base, over 200 tea farmers work on the mountain to pick tea leaves every day. As the peak period of spring tea harvest starts, the daily number of tea pickers will increase to more than 1,000.The fresh tea leaves will be immediately sent to the tea processing workshops, where they will go through a standardized production process—withering, fixing and shaping, drying, and packing. To improve tea-making efficiency and quality, the base uses integrated machines for fixing and shaping. All 12 machines can process over 300 kg of tea leaves per day.

Full mechanization has replaced the inefficient model of traditional hand-frying. Moreover, with precise temperature and duration control in each step, the fresh aroma and mellow taste of the tea are well preserved and the processing efficiency significantly improves. In recent years, the Hengshan Huang Tea Production Base has been stepping up its efforts to actively connect with international buyers, with its overseas "circle of friends" continuously expanding, said Peng Can, a manager of the base. In 2025, Hengshan Huang Tea was exported to 28 countries. In 2026, the purchaser range has expanded to seven more countries, bringing the total number of export destinations to 35.
