A Millennium Later: The Maritime Silk Road Welcomes "Return Passengers" from Australia
On April 9th, together with an Australian delegation, we visited the Changsha Tongguan Kiln Museum.
Over a thousand years ago, the Belitung Shipwreck set sail from here, carrying Changsha ceramics to West Asia and East Africa. A millennium later, Australian visitors have followed the same Maritime Silk Road to the source of Tongguan Kiln. From going global to bringing in, the Maritime Silk Road is telling new stories today.
By the Xiangjiang River, molten iron fireworks lit up the water, while Hanfu attire added a vivid cultural touch. Australian visitors explored Chinese intangible cultural heritage through immersive experiences at Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town!
The Maritime Silk Road carried Tongguan ceramics afar, showcasing Chinese craftsmanship to the world. The same route brings old friends together and welcomes new ones. What remains unchanged is the craftsmanship and sincerity embedded in intangible cultural heritage, and the confidence and warmth found in culture.
