In 2026, the Changsha Municipal Urban Management Bureau will fully implement a plan to integrate sports facilities into parks. The bureau will select 40 parks across the city to incorporate ball courts, fitness trails, and children's playgrounds. The initiative will make "parks + sports" a standard feature of daily life that is readily accessible to all residents.

Different types of parks will serve different "sports-related functions." Comprehensive parks will emphasize "all-around" functionality, featuring ball courts, fitness trails, and multi-purpose exercise areas to meet the fitness needs of the entire family. Community parks will be more "accessible," with ping-pong tables, small basketball courts, and badminton courts conveniently located nearby, allowing residents to take exercise right outside their doors. Sports-themed parks, meanwhile, will offer a "unique" experience, showcasing characteristic activities such as rock climbing, roller skating, and pickleball, providing young people with a place to have fun.

Facility construction will not involve large-scale demolition or construction, nor will it destroy or encroach upon green spaces. Instead, efforts will be made to fully utilize the space under bridges, idle plots, and abandoned venues, and even explore the use of vacant lots and gaps to build air-supported structures. Once the facilities are installed, they will be open to the public free of charge or at low fees, with special measures in place to ensure access for the elderly, youth, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. Urban management authorities will establish equipment inventories, designate responsible parties for maintenance, and conduct regular updates and upkeep, to ensure that residents can use them conveniently.
