Changsha's imports and exports maintained robust growth momentum in the first two months of 2026. The total foreign trade value grew 12.7% year on year to 48.53 billion CNY, accounting for 52.9% of the provincial total. The city's foreign trade structure continued to be optimized, with both exports and imports contributing to growth. Exports totaled 29.11 billion CNY while imports increased 40.7% to 19.42 billion CNY, according to the Xingsha Customs Authority on March 21, 2026.
Private enterprises remained the mainstay of Changsha's foreign trade. During the January-February period, their total imports and exports increased 12% year on year to 39.07 billion CNY, accounting for 80.5% of the city's total and driving the majority of its growth. State-owned enterprises also posted impressive growth, with their foreign trade value rising 62.8% year on year, indicating a continued strengthening of growth momentum.
Changsha achieved significant results in diversifying its foreign trade. Traditional markets showed clear signs of recovery, with steady growth in imports and exports with major traditional trading partners such as the European Union, the United States, and Hong Kong, China, effectively driving the city's overall foreign trade growth. Changsha's trade with partner countries of the Belt and Road Initiative and other RCEP member countries remained stable. The city's imports and exports to emerging and major markets such as the Middle East and Taiwan, China, marked impressive growth rates, further enhancing the resilience of the city's foreign trade market.
The structure of export products continued to shift toward higher value-added items. Mechanical and electrical products became the core pillar of exports, accounting for over 70% of Changsha's total export value. Exports of leading products such as automobiles, flat-panel display modules, and construction machinery increased rapidly, reaching 140 countries and regions worldwide, with sales increasing in most markets. Exports of the "new three" products—electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products—maintained rapid growth. The international competitiveness of Changsha's intelligent manufacturing sector kept improving. Changsha achieved a significant breakthrough in the large-scale export of fresh-chilled chicken to Hong Kong, thanks to the customs clearance facilitation measures implemented by the Xingsha Customs Authority. The channels for high-quality agricultural products to reach overseas markets have been fully opened.
Imports witnessed robust demand as well, with steady growth in imports of mechanical and electrical products, metal ores and mineral sands, and high-quality agricultural products. The growth rate of imported integrated circuits, high-end components, and specialty consumer goods surged significantly, meeting the needs of local industrial upgrading while enriching consumer choices for residents. The Xingsha Customs Authority continues to optimize the business environment by implementing measures such as streamlining green channels and enforcing tax incentive policies, thereby precisely helping enterprises reduce costs and improve efficiency.
