Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially announced the first batch of cities selected for the national new industrialization demonstration zones. Changsha was successfully shortlisted, becoming one of the 16 pilot cities nationwide and the only city in Hunan Province. Other manufacturing powerhouses selected alongside Changsha include Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Chengdu.

New industrialization is a strategic pathway for promoting the high-end, intelligent, and green development of the manufacturing sector. The establishment of national new industrialization demonstration zones aims to select an array of cities with strong industrial foundations, vibrant innovation ecosystems, and significant demonstration and driving force to serve as pioneers in pilot initiatives. These cities will explore and develop replicable and scalable experience in such areas as industrial scientific and technological innovation, digital transformation, and green and low-carbon development.

In recent years, Changsha has focused on developing its manufacturing sector, fostering a number of competitive industrial clusters, including construction machinery, automobiles and auto parts, and electronics and information technology. Last year, four industrial parks and zones in Changsha were selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as model cases for advancing new industrialization.

Changsha will establish a special working mechanism under the coordination of the Leading Group for Building Hunan into a Manufacturing Powerhouse to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative. Robust and preferential policies will be initiated to fully safeguard the development of the demonstration zone. In accordance with the requirements of the initiative, Changsha will keep on improving the industrial sci-tech innovation system, promoting digital and intelligent transformation, and accelerating green and low-carbon industrial development. These efforts aim to further modernize industrial chains and cultivate and strengthen new quality productive forces.

A spokesperson of the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province noted that the department will fully support Changsha in refining its work plan and implementing demonstration tasks in line with the establishment goals, forming a "Hunan model" that can be replicated and promoted.
