Over one thousand runners gathered in a square surrounded by the sea of golden canola flowers in Chating Town, Wangcheng District, Changsha on March 14, 2026. As the starting gun fired, they surged like fish into the golden sea, enjoying the amazing spring scenery.

As a signature sports event in Changsha, the Changsha Rural Fun Run has, since its launch in 2023, featured more than 10 races showcasing the beauty of all four seasons. The event has attracted over 14,000 participants and inspired 140,000 people to explore the picturesque countryside and experience the charm of rural life.

At every race stop, the host towns and townships paid meticulous attention to detail, carefully designed the courses, renovated and repaired roads, and added cultural landmarks. They strove to ensure that runners can fully appreciate the stunning sea of flowers and the rich cultural heritage of the countryside while running, delivering a dual experience of fitness and sightseeing.

The Changsha Rural Fun Run is not only a sporting event, but also a lively fair showcasing quality rural products.

The event prizes also highlighted local specialties, with agricultural products such as honey, camellia oil, and potted plants and bonsai, as well as handmade goods, ensuring that participants went home with plenty of goodies. The organizing committee also launched an online market to promote local characteristic agricultural products, bringing the charm of rural life to a wider audience.

Developing culture and tourism on the sports basis, the year-round running festival has completely ignited the popularity of weekend rural tours in the suburbs of Changsha.

Since the launch of the Changsha Rural Fun Run, nearly 500 farmhouses have been transformed into temporary homestays. Their cost-effective and hospitable services have drawn many runners and tourists back for return visits.

The organizing committee has partnered with local orchards, farmsteads, educational bases, family-friendly parks, rural homestays, and popular tourist attractions, to organize colorful outdoor activities, including evening galas, crayfish fishing, barbecues, karaoke, educational tours, and fishing. By deeply integrating sports events with rural culture and tourism, the initiative has enhanced the reputation of rural tourism and increased villagers' incomes, boosting rural revitalization.
