On the morning of February 4, a shipment of 1.46 tonnes of chilled pork produced by a Hunan-based company passed inspection and quarantine by the Changde Customs Authority, a branch of the Changsha Customs Authority, in Hanshou County, Changde City. The goods were then exported to Singapore via cold-chain logistics. This marked China's first export of chilled pork to Singapore. According to an announcement from the Singaporean government on January 29, Hunan became the first province in China to obtain approval for exporting chilled pork to Singapore.

The shipment departed from the Changsha Huanghua International Airport and arrived in Singapore the same day.

Singapore consumes approximately 70,000 tonnes of chilled pork annually, with imports previously mainly from Australia and Malaysia. With this new approval, Hunan becomes the only province in China authorized to export chilled pork, frozen pork, and processed pork products to Singapore.

In recent years, Hunan has intensified efforts to establish African swine fever (ASF)-free zones, propel large-scale breeding enterprises to transit from targeted control to comprehensive elimination. The province has advanced the construction of a biosecurity protection system across the entire industry chain—from breeding and slaughter to processing and distribution, to fortify its ASF prevention barrier. In 2024, the Singapore Food Agency approved the resumption of frozen pork product exports from Hunan to Singapore. In 2025, the above-mentioned Hunan-based company exported 7,745 tonnes of pork products including frozen meat, cooked meat, and roasted meat to Singapore, while another Hunan-based firm exported 96 tonnes of suckling pig.

Hunan's pork products have entered Singapore's high-end consumer market, opening new channels for the province's meat export trade. According to statistics from the Changsha Customs Authority, Hunan exported meat products worth 940 million CNY in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 24.4%.
