As the New Year's Day holiday approaches, the countdown to holiday trips has quietly begun. Bookings for flights, train tickets, and hotels are heating up. Data from multiple online travel platforms show a significant surge in travel plans for the New Year holiday. Changsha has emerged as a nationwide top-ten popular destination, a favored choice for many travelers seeking a celebratory and meaningful way to ring in the new year.

According to data from Tongcheng Travel, searches for train tickets and flights during the New Year's Day holiday have surged by 303% year on year. The top 10 most popular destinations nationwide are Shanghai, Harbin, Beijing, Shenyang, Dali, Kunming, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guiyang, and Changsha. Trips lasting two days or more have become the mainstream, with families of those born in the 1980s and 1990s accounting for over 70%. Meanwhile, the participation of younger travelers, who were born from 2000 to 2009, has also significantly increased.

Data from the Qunar travel service shows that during the New Year's Day holiday, short-distance routes with a travel time of around two hours are the most popular, with routes between Guangzhou and Changsha in high demand.

Additionally, data from Fliggy travel service reveals that for the 2026 New Year's Day holiday, ticket bookings and airport pick-up and drop-off reservations in Hunan have increased by 340% and 300% year on year, respectively. Outbound travel bookings by Hunan tourists have grown by over 100% year on year. Changsha, Hengyang, Yueyang, Zhangjiajie, and Chenzhou are the most popular cities in the province, while Xiangtan and Yiyang have seen the fastest growth in travel bookings.
