The Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government held a press conference on December 19, focusing on Hunan's development of the cultural tourism sector during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

According to the conference, the revenue of culture and tourism enterprises above the designated size in Hunan is estimated to steadily increase to about 1.25 trillion CNY in 2025, and the number of tourist visits in the province will rise to 844 million, generating a total tourism expenditure of 1.16 trillion CNY. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the average annual growth rates of the three above-mentioned indicators are projected to exceed 10%, 16%, and 14%, respectively.

Over the past five years, Hunan has focused on the goal of building itself into a culturally strong province and a world-class tourist destination. With tourism development conferences serving as the engine and reform and innovation as the driving force, the province has been fully committed to promoting the high-quality development of its cultural and tourism industries.

In 2024, Hunan received a cumulative total of 742 million tourist visits, generating tourism expenditures of 1.06 trillion CNY. This marked that the tourism industry joined the ranks of the province's six trillion-yuan-level industries. Three cities (prefecture) were established as national pilot cities for cultural and tourism consumption, while three counties (districts) were selected as national demonstration zones for integrated development of the cultural tourism industry. Five counties (districts) were designated as national pilot counties for empowering rural revitalization through cultural industry. Two new 5A-level scenic areas and three new national-level tourist resorts were approved. Shibadong Village was recognized as one of the "Best Tourism Villages" by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism). Zhangjiajie received inbound tourists from 183 countries and regions worldwide, reinforcing its reputation as a popular tourist destination in the international community.

The cultural sector continues to flourish, enriching the cultural life of the people. Over 10 works have been honored with the highest awards in the industry, including the Wenhua Award, the Qunxing Award, the Lotus Award, and the Cao Yu Script Award. During the 2020-2025 period, more than 80,000 public benefit performances were staged annually. By 2024, the average number of visits per capita to cultural venues across the province reached 5.05, ranking among the top nationwide. Nearly 1,500 new intangible cultural heritage representative projects have been added, bringing the total number to 6,824. Six major projects for cultural relics protection and utilization were implemented. The province has over 20,000 registered immovable cultural relics and a collection of more than two million sets of movable cultural relics. A total of 205 museums have been officially registered. Hunan topped nationwide in total revolutionary cultural relic resources and ranked among China's top ten provinces in cultural relics preservation.

Additionally, the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industrial Park has gathered over 4,300 enterprises and 64,000 young talents, yielding thousands of scientific and technological innovations. The site has been successfully designated as a national-level demonstration park. The development of new performance spaces is gaining momentum. The "You Xiang You" one-stop smart cultural tourism service platform and the digital museum platform "Shanhai" App were launched. Hunan Museum was selected as a national "Data Element ×" model case, exemplifying outstanding integration of culture with technology and tourism. These initiatives enabled the public to experience the joy and convenience brought by new business formats and scenarios.
