Recently, 54 tonnes of African Fuling or Poria cocos in the Republic of the Congo, valued at over one million CNY, entered China through the Qinzhou Port in Guangxi and arrived at Jingzhou via the Huaihua International Land Port. This marks Jingzhou's first import of African Fuling, signifying new progress in the global industrial chain layout for Jingzhou Fuling.

Fuling is a major medicinal herb in China with both medicinal and edible uses. As a saprophytic fungus, its growth relies on pine wood as a nutrient substrate. Africa possesses unique natural resource advantages, particularly in countries like the Republic of the Congo, which boast high forest coverage dominated by pine species suitable for Fuling cultivation.

"We brought domestic Fuling strains to Africa. Through technique transfer and international cooperation, we leveraged local resources for large-scale cultivation. After harvesting and preliminary processing, the Fuling products are transported back to China, achieving optimal global resource allocation," said the general manager of a Jingzhou company. This "overseas cultivation + import supervision" approach represents a key initiative for the company to deepen collaboration with Africa, and further refine the global industrial chain layout for Jingzhou Fuling. Currently, the company has established a preliminary industrial chain in Africa encompassing Fuling cultivation, planting, primary processing, and export. Local Fuling production can significantly meet the expanding demands of China's domestic Fuling industry.

Lumps of Fuling are ready for inspection.​

Currently, this batch of Fuling imported from the Republic of the Congo is stored in the production and processing workshop of a Jingzhou company, undergoing inspection. The inspection period lasts for one month, with testing items including Poria polysaccharide content and water-soluble extractives. Only after fully meeting the standards of the 2025 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and the local quality requirements for Jingzhou Fuling, can it proceed to deep processing and be sold to the national market.

As the "Hometown of Chinese Fuling," Jingzhou is not only the birthplace of Fuling strain selection and breeding and a hub for processing and trade, but also an international exchange center for Fuling industry. Jingzhou Fuling products are now exported to over 10 countries and regions. The Jingzhou company manager noted that the company will continue to advance cooperation in Fuling industry with African partners and those involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, propelling Jingzhou's transformation from the "Fuling Capital of China" to the "Fuling Capital of the World."
