From January to November in 2025, Hunan exported 82,000 electric vehicles worth 10.7 billion CNY, representing year-on-year increases of 106.1% and 105.3%, respectively, according to recent data from the Changsha Customs Authority. This marks the first time Hunan's annual electric vehicle exports have exceeded 80,000 units and surpassed 10 billion CNY in value.
On December 10, the general assembly workshop at the Hunan Geely Automobile Parts Co., Ltd.'s Xiangtan Manufacturing Base was busy with operations, and workers ramped up production for orders of complete vehicles, components, and core parts for both electric and gasoline-fueled models. On the same day, 360 electric vehicles produced at the base were shipped to Malaysia via the Completely-Knocked-Down (CKD) form. Recently, the Changsha BYD Auto Co., Ltd. shipped 645 and 1,649 electric vehicles to Indonesia and Mexico, respectively. Since the beginning of this year, Changsha BYD Auto's automobile exports have increased by 50%.
Currently, Hunan has gathered over ten new energy vehicle manufacturers, including BYD, GAC AION, SAIC Volkswagen, BAIC Foton, and Geely, with its annual auto output ranking fourth nationwide. According to statistics from the Changsha Customs Authority, Hunan's electric vehicle exports have maintained positive growth in both value and volume for 12 consecutive months since December 2024. In November alone, Hunan's electric vehicle exports surged by 394.5% in volume and 326.9% in value compared to the same period last year.
Hunan's electric vehicle exports have delivered outstanding performance in emerging markets. In the first 11 months, 56% of the province's total electric vehicle export value came from Indonesia and Mexico. Among countries and regions with export values exceeding 100 million CNY, exports to Singapore, China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Netherlands surged by 18.5 times, 15 times, and 14.6 times respectively. During the January-November period, exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, other BRICS members, and ASEAN countries increased by 90.6%, 126.5%, and 538.4%, respectively. Exports to the Middle East and Africa surged by 149.8% and 871.4%. Changsha emerged as the primary city for Hunan's electric vehicle exports, shipping 79,000 units worth 10.06 billion CNY in the first 11 months. The figures accounted for over 90% of both the total volume and value of Hunan's electric vehicle exports during the same period.
This year, the coordinated supervision mode for the export of new energy vehicle lithium batteries in separate containers which was pioneered by Hunan Province has been replicated and promoted nationwide. The mode supports dangerous package certification for automotive batteries at the place of origin, helping enterprises in Hunan alone save 3.2 million CNY in transportation and storage costs. The mode has now been implemented in Chongqing, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Hefei, and other cities, injecting new momentum into the export of new energy vehicles across the country.
