Changsha's Imports Hit Record High in Q1

Changsha's total foreign trade value reached 60.13 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2024, according to data released by the Xingsha Customs Authority on April 24. Of the total, imports hit a record high of 24.8 billion yuan.

From January to March, Changsha's enterprises that use special and sophisticated technologies to produce novel and unique products embarked on a fast track to foreign trade development. Eighty import and export enterprises registered actual performance, and 42 of them saw an increase of more than 50% in foreign trade. High-tech products were major imported products, with the import value up 74.9% year on year.

Changsha's exports of construction machinery surged 18.8% year on year to 6.89 billion yuan, accounting for 19.5% of the city's total export value. Nearly 90% of enterprises that were engaged in exports achieved growth, and their products were sold well in 129 countries. In particular, the exports of special purpose motor vehicles and forklifts grew by 65.3% and 80.5% respectively.

Imports of high-tech products, bulk commodities, and consumer goods concerning people's livelihood expanded significantly. Of the total, the combined import value of computer and communication technology products, energy products, and crude oil increased by 3.76 billion yuan, driving Changsha's import value growth by 15.8 percentage points.
