Changsha Launches Over 300 Cultural Events to Promote Reading

April 23, 2024 marks the 29th World Book Day. A series of activities centering on the day and the Public Library Service Publicity Week were launched in Hunan Xiangjiang New Area on April 22. With the theme of "The city is an open book", the publicity week will feature more than 300 cultural activities, providing residents with opportunities to appreciate the joy of reading and feel the charm of the city.

A special map was released at the launch ceremony, highlighting a selection of reading places with beautiful aesthetics, profound meanings, and unique characteristics. The aim is to lead residents and tourists to explore Changsha's historical and cultural heritage and modern urban features especially when the May Day holiday approaches.

From April 22 to 30, Changsha Library and its branch libraries will offer colorful cultural treats including an exhibition of the literature depicting Changsha in the Republic of China period (1912-1949), an exhibition honoring great leaders and revolutionary martyrs for their patriotism, an audiobook invitation specially designed for the visually impaired, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) science popularization experience activities, an event titled "International Students Celebrate World Book Day", the 19th Wenjin Book Award Book Fair, holiday-themed enjoyable reading series activities, and a Yuelu Mountain reading lecture.
