The 8th Shaodong Hardware and Mechanical Expo opened on April 5, 2024. More than 1,300 domestic and overseas enterprises presented over 3,500 kinds of products. Eleven investment projects worth 11.6 billion yuan were contracted at the opening ceremony, involving metal intelligent manufacturing, resource recycling, and cross-border e-commerce platform cooperation.

Shaodong is a famous producer of hardware in China and an important county economy characterized in metalworking industry in Hunan Province, boasting the largest hardware and electromechanical market in the southern and central regions of China. In recent years, Shaodong has vigorously promoted the development of industrial clusters, building the Shaodong Hardware Science and Technology Innovation Industrial Park and creating the 10-billion-yuan hardware industrial clusters. More than 60 enterprises have been attracted to settle down in the industrial park, including Hunan Ningqing Aerospace Intelligent Equipment, Shaofeng New Materials, and Xiongfa Hardware. Shaodong now has cultivated more than 3,500 enterprises in hardware tools production and marketing, including 80 enterprises above designated scale. It has a total of 1,557 registered hardware trademarks, over 50,000 employees, and an annual production capacity of over 300 million sets of wrenches, pliers, and hammers. Its wrench production accounted for more than 75% of the national total. In 2023, Shaodong's hardware industry completed the GDP of 19.165 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 14.83%.

In order to further advance the hardware industry, Shaodong has been actively exploring the way of boosting industry by hosting exhibition while promoting exhibition through industrial development. Since 2017, Shaodong, based on the advantages of hardware and electromechanical industry, has organized the hardware and mechanical expo for years. The expo has been built into an important regional, national, and international platform to show hardware and electromechanical products, carry out trade exchanges, promote technical cooperation, and attract investment for projects. It has become an authoritative event for the development of the national hardware and mechanical and electrical industry.
