A cold-chain express train carrying imported meat arrived at the Changsha North Railway Station at 15:30 on March 19, after running for 19 hours from Shenzhen's Yantian Port.

These refrigerated products were unloaded and directly transferred into the automated cold storage in the railway station, ensuring supply of fresh imported meat for Hunan consumers.

The meat products carried on the train totaled 100 tonnes and included pork, beef, and chicken from Spain and South America. This was the first port-to-cold store express train operated by the China Railway Guangzhou Group. Such a one-stop logistics mode based on "rail-sea intermodal train + cold store" unity would help ensure fast transportation under constant temperature, so that the freshness of the refrigerated products can be guaranteed to the largest extent.

As a major consumption-oriented city in the central region of China, Changsha has a booming demand for imported refrigerated products. Previously, the imported products could only be transported by truck after completing the customs clearance processes in the Shenzhen or Shanghai ports.

The China Railway Guangzhou Group collaborated with the Hunan Cold-Chain Logistics Industry Association and the Shenzhen Pingyan Sea-Rail Intermodal Transportation Co., Ltd. to roll out the new "rail-sea intermodal train + cold storage" logistics mode and launch the cold-chain express trains.

The automated cold storage in the Changsha North Railway Station can accommodate nearly 10,000 tonnes of products with a minimum temperature of minus 18°C. The entry, delivery, inventory, and dispatching of cargo in cold storage are operated automatically. In order to maintain constant low temperature, the cold containers on the cold-chain express train remain powered on during the whole journey. This can effectively ensure food safety and lower the logistics cost.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has launched the cold chain projects of fruits and refrigerated meat from Huaihua West Railway Station and Shenzhen Yantian Port to Changsha North Railway Station, and from Guangdong's Zengcheng to the Alashankou (border). Up to now, the volume of cold-chain cargo transportation has increased by 131% year on year.
