皮影戏在湖南也被称为影子戏。

In Hunan, leather shadow play is also called shadow play.

解放前，长沙庙宇甚多，大庙及会馆都建有戏台，吹拉弹唱中，一场皮影戏便上演了。

Before 1949, there were many temples in Changsha. The big temples and convention halls were all built with stages, on which shadow plays were often performed with the company of traditional music.

品湘记第六期，来自俄罗斯的波妮娜和来自乌兹别克斯坦的李想，在湖南雨花非遗馆第一次体验了皮影戏。

In this time’s Pinxiangji, Polly from Russia and Li Xiang from Uzbekistan experienced shadow play for the first time at Yuhua Heritage Museum of Hunan.

著名剧作家田汉曾说：“影子戏是我接触戏剧的起点。”

Tian Han, a famous playwright, once said, "Shadow play is the starting point of my exposure to dramatic arts."

这次体验，大概也会成为波妮娜和李想爱上湖南戏剧的起点吧!

For Polly and Li Xiang, this experience may also be their starting point to fall in love with Hunan opera.

皮影：一个复杂、奇妙又艰苦的过程

Shadow Play: A Complex, Wonderful and Challenging Form of Art

湖南雨花非遗馆内，有间德润阁，以知名皮影大师何德润的名字命名。现在的负责人，是何德润的曾孙，何怀玉。

In Hunan Yuhua Heritage Musem, there is a Derun Pavilion named after the famous local shadow play master, He Derun. The current person in charge is He Derun's great-grandson, He Huaiyu.

一进德润阁，波妮娜和李想就被满墙的皮影吸引了。李想选了一个戴帽子的师爷形象皮影玩了起来。听说手上的皮影是由牛皮制成时，他露出了惊讶的表情。“摸起来可一点儿都不像呢!”

Once they stepped into the Derun Pavilion, Polly and Li Xiang were instantly fascinated by a wall full of shadow figures. Li took up a figure of a hat-wearing master. When he heard that the figure in his hands was made of cowhide, he exclaimed in surprise: "It doesn't feel like skin at all!"

一张皮影通常要经过选皮、制皮、画稿、过稿、镂刻、敷彩、发汗熨平、缀结合成等八道工序，有时需要手工雕刻3000余刀，何怀玉形容，这是“一个复杂、奇妙又艰苦的过程”。

To tailor a shadow puppet usually takes eight stages, which are: selecting the leather, processing the leather, drawing, examining manuscripts, carving, applying color, sweating, ironing and affixing. Sometimes, more than 3000 times of manual carving are needed. He Huaiyu describes it as a "complicated, wonderful but arduous process".

早在前清时期，皮影就遍布湖南城乡。何怀玉说，那个时代，娱乐活动不怎么丰富，选择也不多，皮影十分受人追捧。“看皮影戏就和现在的年轻人看4D电影一样时髦。”

As early as in the early Qing Dynasty, shadow play was prevalent in both Hunan's urban and rural areas. According to He Huaiyu, back at that time, activities of entertainment were not very diverse, so there were not many choices. Shadow plays were as popular and fashionable then as "4D movies for young people nowadays."

“皮影让我想起俄罗斯木偶剧”

“The shadow play always reminds me of Russian puppet play.”

“组装”好一个简易版纸质皮影，波妮娜高兴地打开了话匣子。

Assembling a paper shadow figure, Polly started to introduce a similar play in her country.

“在俄罗斯，也有类似地皮影戏的传统剧，我们称之为木偶剧。”波妮娜说，俄罗斯的木偶是立体的，用线绳操纵，还有另外一种木偶剧，则是将木偶套在手上进行表演。

“In Russia,we also have a conditional play, that is, the puppet play.” said Polly. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of puppet, the solid puppets, which are manipulated by ropes; and the glove-like puppets, which are put on the performer’s hands during performance.

波妮娜幼年在学校时，经常和同学们一起表演木偶剧。“很多年没有玩过木偶剧，今天好像回到了童年。”

When Polly was young at school, she often played puppet shows with her classmates. "I haven't played it for many years. Today I feel like I'm back in my childhood."

被湖南面条深深吸引

The Charm of Changsha Noodles

波妮娜和李想正在中南大学念大一，虽然刚来湖南不过一年多，但他们俩的中文水平也不可小觑。

Polly and Li Xiang are the freshmen of Central South University. Although they have just come to Hunan for one year, their Chinese proficiency can not be underestimated.

拿着“李白”和“杜甫”的皮影，波妮娜和李想还即兴表演了一段皮影戏。

Holding the shadow figures of "Li Bai" and "Du Fu", Polly and Li Xiang also improvised a shadow play.

“你好呀，朋友。”“你好呀!你到哪里去?”“我去吃面。”“吃面好呀!我也想吃，一起走吧!”

“Hey man!” “Oh, Hi! Where are you going?” “I am going to eating noodles.” “That’s good, take me with you!”

两位外国朋友脱口而出的台词，离不开“吃”。

The lines blurted out by two foreign friends are inseparable from eating.

波妮娜腼腆地捋了捋头发，不好意思地笑了，“我特别爱吃湖南的面条，尤其是牛肉码子的，太好吃了。”来湖南时间虽短，但她已被湖南菜深深吸引。“还有烧烤摊子的烤肉，好吃!”

Polly poked her hair and laughed shyly,“I am a big fan of Hunan noodles, especially the beef noodles, that’s amazing!”

在来湖南前，波妮娜对湖南一点儿都不了解。在这里上学后，却愈发喜欢长沙这座城市。“今天过来，我又了解了一点湖南的文化，下次我还想体验更多。”

Before living in Hunan, polly knew little about the city. But now, she loves Changsha more than ever. “Today I have learned so many of Hunan culture. I hope next time I can know even more.”
