On December 17, 2025, China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy marked its one-year anniversary. The Hunan General Station of Immigration Inspection announced that as of midnight on December 17, over 4,000 travelers had benefited from the 240-hour visa-free transit policy at Hunan ports.
Over the past year, more than 3,800 foreign nationals have entered or exited via the Changsha Port, with nearly 1,700 arrivals and approximately 2,200 departures. These travelers represented 22 countries and primarily took flights between Changsha and destinations such as London, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok. The largest groups originated from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Indonesia. Over 150 foreign nationals from eight countries passed through the Zhangjiajie Port, 99% of whom boarded flights to Hong Kong and Seoul. The top three countries of origin were the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia, with an average stay in China for approximately seven days.
The Hunan General Station of Immigration Inspection has received over 200 inquiries regarding the 240-hour visa-free transit policy through the 12367 service platform, from 14 countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Indonesia. The Changsha and Zhangjiajie Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection Stations have strengthened communication with airlines, establishing information-sharing mechanisms to implement targeted policy outreach to eligible foreign travelers. They have prepared in advance for issuing temporary entry permits, enabling "one-stop processing" for applications and ensuring smooth customs clearance for passengers.
