Changsha's total import and export value rose 3.2% year on year to 211.91 billion CNY in the first three quarters of 2025, accounting for 53.5% of Hunan Province's total foreign trade value, the Xingsha Customs Authority said on October 23. Of the total, exports amounted to 138.99 billion CNY, up 7.3%, while imports reached 72.92 billion CNY. Since this June, both exports and imports have recorded growth for four consecutive months. In September alone, imports surpassed 10 billion CNY for the first time, surging 25.7% year on year and reaching a record high for a single month.

Since the beginning of this year, Changsha's circle of friends in foreign trade has become more stable. ASEAN remained Changsha's top trading partner, with bilateral trade totaling 38.89 billion CNY, up 15.4%. The city's trade with Africa expanded 56.7% year on year to 23.91 billion CNY, ranking fourth among provincial capitals nationwide and first among capitals of the six provinces in central China. The number of African countries with which trade grew by over 50% reached 25, eight more countries compared to the same period last year. Exports of construction machinery for infrastructure development and photovoltaic energy systems promoting green development to Africa rose by 79% and 69.7%, respectively. During the same period, trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 129.58 billion CNY, up 13.4%. Exports of high-end equipment, instruments, and biomedical products to these countries increased by 22.1%, 28.6%, and 38.8%, respectively.

Exports of new and innovative products have shown significant growth. Exports of electric vehicles and lithium batteries—two key components of the so-called "new-three" products—grew by 104.7% and 60.7%, respectively. Application scenario-oriented robots are gaining popularity overseas, with the exports of industrial robots and welding robots rising 170.1% and 135.2%, respectively. Intelligent agricultural machinery experienced explosive overseas expansion, with agricultural machinery exports soaring 174.7%. The advantages of traditional industries continued to expand. The number of engineering machinery trading partners expanded by 8 compared to the same period last year. Fireworks and tea exports grew by 5.5% and 19.8%, respectively.
