The China Cocoa African Procurement Center (Ghana Overseas Warehouse) has been officially put into operation. The first batch of 100 tonnes of high-quality African cocoa raw material has been loaded onto a ship bound for Shanghai, expected to arrive at China's designated bonded warehouse in the second half of August. The commodities will enter the market after passing customs clearance, satisfying the domestic customers' demand for cocoa raw materials originating from Africa, said the Yiyang Municipal Bureau of Commerce on July 14, 2025.
During the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, the project of the China Cocoa African Procurement Center (Ghana Overseas Warehouse) was successfully signed, with a contract value of 20 million USD. The project is jointly built by the Yiyang Changying Trading Co., Ltd. and the Changsha Accra Cocoa Food Trading Co., Ltd., in conjunction with the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) in Ghana, and the African Cocoa Marketing Center in China. The center will be built into a supply chain system integrating purchasing, warehousing, and logistics in the core production area, providing a stable, efficient, and high-quality direct supply channel of African cocoa for domestic chocolate and related food industries.
The China Cocoa African Procurement Center (Ghana Overseas Warehouse) has three core advantages:
- In terms of direct sourcing and quality guarantee, the center is rooted in the core production areas of global high-quality cocoa;
- In terms of large-scale procurement and supplying capacity, the center has built a stable procurement and supply system of 1,000 tonnes of cocoa raw materials per month;
- The purchasing approach is more flexible and convenient, supporting batch, spot, and online purchasing.
Changying Trading, Accra Cocoa Food, Xiangqiao Food, and other project parties are perfecting the market layout of "flagship store in city center + e-commerce operation center + cross-border e-commerce independent station." Meanwhile, they are working together with Ghana's famous chocolate brand "Golden Tree" to build a high-end chocolate brand in China.
The Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held in Changsha on June 11, 2025. The meeting made it clear that China will implement the initiative of zero-tariff treatment to cover 100 percent of tariff lines for all 53 African countries that have diplomatic ties with China. The initiative has brought cost dividends for the China Cocoa African Procurement Center. Optimistic about the market, the center has already launched pre-procurement of the second batch of 500 tonnes of cocoa mass this year. It is expected that by the end of 2026, the center will have completed 5,000 tonnes of cocoa procurement and import.
