Reports from Dubai, UAE on July 13 indicated that Liu Mohan, a senior student from Changsha Changjun High School, won a gold medal at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO).
Each of the four Chinese competitors obtained a gold medal at the competition. Liu's medal is the only gold secured by Hunan students across the five International Olympiad subjects this year, bringing honor to the province.
IChO 2025 was held in Dubai, UAE, between July 5 and 14, participated by 354 competitors from 92 countries and regions around the world. After a five-hour theoretical exam and a five-hour practical exam, 40 gold, 73 silver, and 107 bronze medals were awarded. All of the four Chinese competitors were honored with gold medals.
This session was co-hosted by the UAE Ministry of Education and the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), with the examination venue set at the Expo Centre Sharjah in the UAE.
IChO is the largest and most influential international Olympiad in chemistry for hgih school students. Usually, it is held in July every year, lasting for about ten days.
Liu Mohan became a member of the Chinese team for IChO 2025 in January this year. A total of 50 candidates from 18 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions were selected to join the national training team. Finally, four team members stood out with their performances in theoretical and practical exams as well as physical fitness and medical checks, being designated to represent China at IChO 2025.
