The Leijiashan Tunnel, a part of the Sangzhi-Longshan Expressway, was drilled through on April 2. The tunnel is located in Sangzhi County, with a total length of 6.506 kilometers. Composed of two separated channels in two ways, it is a key and difficult project and currently the longest expressway tunnel under construction in Hunan Province.

The Sangzhi-Longshan Expressway is a key part of China's expressway network linking Hunan's Zhangjiajie and Sichuan's Nanchong. It will get ready for traffic by the end of this year. With this expressway, the travel time from Zhangjiajie's Sangzhi to Xiangxi's Longshan will shrink from two and a half hours to only 40 minutes. It is a tourist channel linking Longshan and Zhangjiajie, and also an interprovincial corridor connecting Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, and Sichuan, playing a driving role in the development of the western regions of Wuling Mountain.
