The national finals of the 2023 China Healthy Run kicked off at Renmin Square of Shaoshan City on December 25. Nearly 4,000 runners from around the country participated in this grand red sport event.

The runners started from Renmin Square and successively ran through the Youth Reservoir and the Former Residence of Mao Zedong, touring around the hometown of this great man while running.

The runners were divided into three programs with different themes: classic, health, and inheritance; and, finished their race at different destinations: the inheritance program finished at the Qingxi Entrance; the health program at the eastern gate of the Mao Zedong Memorial Park; and, the classic program at Renmin Square.

December 26 marks the birthday commemoration of the late Chairman Mao Zedong. Since 1983, Shaoshan has been organizing annual memorial running races around this significant date. This year marks the 40th session of the races. In 2004, the race was upgraded to a provincial-level event, and in 2006 promoted as a provincial fitness-for-all sport event. In 2018, the race was designated as a national-level health run event.

The finals were jointly organized by the Mass Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport, Hunan Provincial Administration of Sport, Hunan Provincial Committee of of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), and Hunan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, and undertaken by the Lottery Management Center of Hunan Provincial Administration of Sport, CPC Shaoshan City Party Committee, Shaoshan People's Government, and Xiangtan Municipal Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television, and Sports Bureau. The Shaoshan Cultural, Tourism, Radio, Television, and Sports Bureau organized the event.
